Frank Murphy is an award-winning children’s book author and longtime elementary school teacher whose books celebrate kindness, inclusion, empathy, leadership, and history. Best known for picture books such as A Boy Like You, A Girl Like You, A Puppy Like Yours, and A Teacher Like You, Frank creates stories that encourage children to be confident, compassionate, and true to themselves. Frank also brings history alive with a variety of Step into Reading books about iconic figures like Ben Franklin, Clara Barton, Frederick Douglass, and Babe Ruth.
His books have received numerous honors and award recognition, including the Carolyn W. Field Award Honor from the Pennsylvania Library Association, the Amelia Bloomer/RISE Award from the American Library Association, and the California Eureka! Gold Award, and selection to the Keystone to Reading Elementary Book Award list for A Boy Like You.
Babe Ruth Saves Baseball was also nominated for the New Jersey Garden State Children’s Book Award. Heroic Heart: An Illustrated Biography of Joe Delaney is the 2025-2026 Louisiana Young Readers’ Choice Award Winner for Grades 3-5!
With more than 34 years in education, Frank combines his love of teaching and storytelling to write books that spark meaningful conversations between children and adults. His work ranges from heartfelt picture books to engaging historical biographies and early readers. Frank lives in Pennsylvania and enjoys visiting schools, connecting with readers, inspiring young people through the power of books, and delivering inspiring professional development for teachers of reading, writing, and leadership.
